The Historical Acceptance Committee
... reviews available data on the first three generations of descendants of George Philip Wertman and determines what can and cannot be proven. It is not our intention to create the largest Wertman database, but the most accurate. This will always be a work in progress and subject to change as new information surfaces. We welcome contributions of all verified Wertman family data for inclusion in the database.
In July of 2000, 42 Wertman researchers met in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to reform the Wertman Family Association. A common topic of discussion was the poor state of Wertman information on the internet. It was decided that only data verified by primary documentation be used on the website.
A problem arose right away. We are not aware of any document that proves the identity of the children of George Philip Wertman. Five sons are named in the History of Lehigh & Carbon County, Pennsylvania, by Matthews & Hungerford, published in 1884. This is, of course, a secondary source.
We have discovered that primary documentation on the early family is very difficult to come by. So, we have examined probabilities and eliminated impossibilities to further the project. Every attempt has been made to clearly identify sources of information that is proven and what is not.
